Mickey Mouse and his buddies are all set to invade cell phones.
Disney Mobile has launched a group of ring tones featuring cartoon characters
from Disney and Pixar animators, the company said Monday.
At $2.50 per tone, the ring tones are available to subscribers of all major U.S.
carriers. Characters to be voiced include Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Goofy, Donald
Duck, Pooh and Tigger, as well as Stitch, Woody, Buzz Lightyear and Mr.
Incredible.
Disney has gone high-tech before; in August, the entertainment giant launched
the Disney Dream Desk PC, which is designed for children.
The tones will include Mickey Mouse prodding users to "answer your phone" and
crying out, "You got a message." Customers can also get Goofy saying, "Hello? Is
anybody there?" and Mr. Incredible saying "Hello? Yeah, I'm Mr. Incredible."
Other ring tones feature more than one character.
Disney Mobile will also sell musical ring tones from movies including "Aladdin"
and "Finding Nemo," along with mobile screensavers.
Ring tones have turned into a big business, as consumers look for ways to
personalize their phones, and companies look for ways to add revenue streams.
Other media companies have also looked to the mobile market to expand their
revenue. Last year, Sanrio announced a customized phone featuring Hello Kitty
and her sidekicks through a deal with handset maker Nokia. |
